Our Oral Health Therapists (OHT’s) are an integral part of our dental team. They have dual qualifications in Dental Therapy and Dental Hygiene which they obtained from either the University of Qld or Griffith University.

They provide quality oral health care for both children and adults and have a strong focus on helping you reach your oral health goals, by providing you with a customised approach to your oral health.

Who are our OHT's?

We are fortunate to have 4 wonderful OHTs at our practice:

The initial appointment will begin with a thorough assessment of your oral health status. You can expect that your Oral Health Therapist will…

  • Ask you a variety of questions related to your oral hygiene habits, diet and health
  • Assess the health of your teeth, gums and jaw bone, read x-rays and determine your risk factors associated with dental diseases.
  • Assess and remove the plaque (sticky bacterial film on teeth) and calculus (hard cement like bacterial deposits) above and below the gum line
  • Recommend a home care regime to suit your oral health needs, and demonstrate a maintenance program, to keep your teeth healthy for life.

Your Oral Health Therapist will be more than happy to answer any other questions you may have regarding oral health and dental procedures.

The Oral Health Therapist has been specially trained at University, in the general maintenance (ie cleaning) of the mouth, teeth and gums and also in gum disease therapy. A dentist will refer a patient to an Oral Health Therapist for more specialized preventive oral care, whilst the Dentist will continue to provide complex treatment.

Most people find a visit to the Oral Health Therapist is a pleasant one. If you do find that treatment is uncomfortable, then it is important that you discuss this with your Oral Health Therapist. Various techniques, including anaesthetics, are available to assist with this.
